Hello.  My name is David King and I am an aspiring programmer.  My main interests are in games and entertainment.  However, I am usually happy just coding in general.  I have dabbled in just about everything from web development to database design to game programming.  I am well versed in many programming languages and technologies to include C++, C#, Java, PHP and SQL.  I do not plan to stop there, as I have a passion for learning new things.

I started programming at an early age.  When I was very young, my uncle gave me his Atari 400 and 800 and all of the games/books that he had for it.  I remember one of those books was a game programming book for Basic.  I would copy each example out of the book and run it.  I was too young to understand what I was doing, but I loved that I could create something from nothing and have it work. That was probably the first trigger in my life that put me on my current path.

In High School, I took my first formal programming courses.  We learned C++, Pascal, Basic and DOS Batch programming.  C++ became my favorite language at the time and I wrote several games in my junior and senior years.  You can see some examples in my sample projects area.

After High School, I joined the Army for six years.  My job title was Information System Analyst and Operator.  Unfortunately, that job did not entail as much programming as I would have liked.  However, I did work a lot with technology.  I learned a lot about networking, servers and workstations.  I have found that background to be very useful in later jobs.  Along with technical skills, the Army also improved some of my life skills.  I learned about discipline and dedication to my work.  At one point, I was in charge of five soldiers and learned a lot regarding leadership and responsibility.  The Army has definitely changed me into a better person.

When I finished my military contract, I decided to start my education.  I first attended Brevard Community College and acquired my Associates in General Arts with a 4.0 GPA.  I then transferred to Florida Institute of Technology, where I graduated to finish my Bachelors in Software Engineering.  I maintained a 3.8 GPA and graduated with honors.

This February, I will be attending the ACM ICPC World Finals along with two other classmates as we compete as a team to represent Florida Institute of Technology.
